Rooted in the ancient teachings of Raja Yoga and the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda, this course offers practical techniques to bring greater peace, joy, and clarity into every area of your life.
Whether you’re completely new to meditation or seeking to reinvigorate an existing practice, the Ananda Course in Meditation provides step-by-step guidance to help you establish a strong and sustainable daily meditation routine. Through experiential learning, you’ll explore:
- Proven techniques for relaxation and breath awareness
- The Hong-Sau technique of concentration, as taught by Yogananda
- How to sit comfortably and create a supportive meditation space
- Learn to Control Your Energy with Yogananda’s Energization Exercises
- Tools to overcome restlessness, distractions, and mental habits
- Ways to experience inner stillness and connect with your higher Self

The First Step on the Path of Kriya Yoga at Ananda Village
Yogananda’s techniques are simple and accessible, yet profound. His spiritual approach to meditation develops a deeper connection with the divine.
These meditation lessons are also the first step toward learning Kriya Yoga, Yogananda’s highest technique for Self-realization.

For over 50 years, members of Ananda Village have been practicing the ancient truths of meditation and spiritual living. This in-person course offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded souls and immerse yourself in the uplifting spiritual atmosphere of Ananda Village—a place where peace, harmony, and divine presence deeply permeate the land. Optional, join us before class for Sunday Service and Community lunch at the Expanding Light Retreat.
What you’ll receive through the course
- Six in-person classes of 1.5 hours each (every Sunday 2 to 3:30 PM at The Expanding Light Retreat, Ananda Village):
- A hardcopy of the textbook, Lessons in Meditation, by Jyotish Novak
- Access to an online repository of additional audio, video and pdf resources
- Weekly guided meditations (Wednesday evening)
- Personal feedback and mentorship
- Optional: Childcare available upon request.
- Optional pre-class informal gathering after Sunday Service (11 to 12:30 pm) at lunch (1:30 pm to 3:30 pm)
